How to unify social media metrics across platforms

One of the things that makes social media marketing both gratifying and frustrating is that each of the social platforms are so different. They all function a little bit differently, indicators of success vary slightly, and they all track different social media metrics. That’s one of the reasons that social media ROI feels so elusive – much of the time, we don’t know where to start.

Although the networks will never “play nicely” together to give us marketers a neat platform to track KPI’s across every social platform, we’ve developed a system to unify five of the primary social media metrics across seven of the main social media networks.

We divided the five social media metrics into the following overarching categories:

  • Social Connections
  • Positive Reinforcement
  • Amplification
  • Feedback
  • Talked About

The below infographic shows the KPI’s under each of these five social media metrics for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.
